Organizing and Leading

1. 2011-2013: Organized and led a series of International and National Seminars and Exchange of Views Sessions on the topic, “Rise of China and Future of South Asia”, during 2011-2013 in the Department of Political Science, University of Chittagong, under the Sub-project, Improving the Capabilities of Research in Political Science and Asian Studies in the Department of Political Science, funded by the Bangladesh Government-funded Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).

                                                                             

2. 2012-2013: Led a series of International Seminars and Exchange of Views Sessions on the topic, “Rise of China and Future of South Asia”, in 2013 in several Universities and institutions in Kunming, Beijing, and Shanghai in China; Tribhuvan University and Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) in Kathmandu in Nepal; Department of International Relations, and Center for European Studies, at the University of Karachi, Pakistan; and Department of East Asian Studies, Institute of Chinese Studies, Institute of Defense and Strategic Analysis, and Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), in India, under the Sub-project, Improving the Capabilities of Research in Political Science and Asian Studies in the Department of Political Science, funded by the Bangladesh Government-funded Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).

 

3. 2012-2013: Led a series of Seminars and Exchange of Views Sessions on the topic, “Rise of China and Future of South Asia”, in 2012-2013 in several Universities and institutions in the Department of International Relations of the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS), Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI), Academy of Foreign Service (AFS) and in the Department of Political Science at the Jahangirnagar University in Dhaka, Department of Political Science, Rajshahi University, Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) at the Rajashahi University under the Sub-project, Improving the Capabilities of Research in Political Science and Asian Studies in the Department of Political Science, funded by the Bangladesh Government-funded Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP).


PARTICIPATION IN PROFESSIONAL SEMINARS

1.      2013: Presented a paper titled, “Religion and Politics in Bangladesh in the

Domestic and Global Context”, in a Seminar, titled, Bangladesh at Forty: Achievements and Challenges, held in Dhaka organized by the Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.

2.      2008: Presented a paper titled, “In Defense of Politics”, at a Seminar in

Chittagong, BANGLADESH, organized by the Bangladesh Studies Society.

     

  3.  1998: Presented a paper, titled, "Islamic Movements and the United States", at a Seminar held in Chittagong, organized by the Chittagong, BANGLADESH, Chapter of the Bangladesh Association of American Studies (BAAS).

 

     4. 1997: Was a discussant on a paper by Mahfuzul H. Chowdhury on "US Foreign Aid Policy Toward South Asia", in a Seminar organized by the Chittagong Chapter of the Bangladesh Association of American Studies (BAAS), held at Chittagong, BANGLADESH.

 

     5. 1994: Presented a paper, titled, "Explaining Democratic Stability and Instability in India and Brazil", at the Annual Conference of the Pacific Coast Conference on Latin American Studies (PCCLAS), held at Glendale, Arizona, USA.

 

     6. 1992: Edward J. Williams presented a paper jointly authored with Bhuian Md. Monoar Kabir, titled, "Comparative Perspectives on the Bangladesh Border with India and Myanmar [Burma] and the United States and Mexican Border" at the 40th Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain Council on Latin American Studies (RMCLAS) at El Paso, Texas, USA.

 

     7. 1991: Presented a paper, titled, "Socio-Political Change and Regime Transition in the Third World: A Study of El Salvador and Bangladesh", at the Annual Conference of the Rocky Mountain Council on Latin American Studies (RMCLAS) at Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

 

     8. 1988: Presented a paper, titled, "Movement and Elections: Legitimization of Military Rule in Bangladesh, 1986", at the Annual Conference of the

            Bangladesh Political Science Association held at Rajshahi, BANGLADESH.

 

     9.  1986: Presented a paper, titled, "Politics of Religion: A Case of the Jamaat-i-Islami in Bangladesh", in an International Seminar organized by the South Asian Studies Center held at Chittagong, BANGLADESH.

 

     10. 1985: Presented a paper, titled, "Jamaat-e-Islami O Chattra Rajneeti: Jammat-e-Ialmi O Islami Chattra Shibirer Shamparker Ekti Paryalochana" [in Bengali], at the Annual Conference of the Bangladesh Political Science Association, held at Chittagong, BANGLADESH.

    

     11. 1984: Presented a paper, titled, "The Military Regime and Student Movement in Bangladesh, 1982-'83", at the Annual Conference of the Bangladesh Political Science Association held at Dhaka, BANGLADESH.
